The Round Series is a fingerboard series produced by 24/7 Magazine and featured riders Deshawn Harris and Martin Illsley, inspired by the skateboarding videos Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song. So far there have been only two installments as Martin Illsley has not been seen involved with fingerboarding for a few years.
Concept
The videos werent meant to be actual battle videos, as it was stated by both Deshawn and Martin during the release of the videos. In the time the videos were products, 2004 and 2005, the fingerboarding scene in the United States were heavily involved in transitional styled fingerboarding. The format was to show that both technical fingerboarding and transitional fingerboarding can be viewed in one video and still be amazing instead of seperated. While the first video held parts from both riders, with a small intermission between them, Round 2 had both full parts and advertisement from the respective teams of the riders.
Reception
There were mixed feelings about the video, since the scene was biais toward the two styles. While the majority treated the video as an actual battle, claiming that Martin was the winner, a small few saw the video for how it was intended and enjoyed the video as a whole. Only after the next few years would the fingerboarding scene become accepting and thus enjoy the videos and both parts from the riders.
